Real estate exam registration strategy: how difficult is it to apply for the real estate exam? Here are 5 registration tips!

June 2, 2021

In addition to seats in prestigious schools and university admission quotas, Hong Kong also has another “competitive” phenomenon -acquiring a spot for real estate examinations. Generally, you can sign up at 9 o’clock in the morning on the day of registration, but the slots are normally full within a few minutes. The real estate examination is organized by the Institute of Professional Education And Knowledge. The exam is divided into 2 different exams – Estate Agent Qualifying Examination (EAQE) and Salesperson Qualifying Examination(SQE). For the difference between the two exams, please refer to the article: “What is the difference between real estate agents and real estate salespersons?” Why is the quota so in demand? Part of the reason is because there are a limited number of seats while there are many people wanting to take the exam, part of the reason is due to the failure of passing the exam in the first try. The difficulty of applying for the real estate exam is not any easier than buying concert tickets.

5 tips to help you sign up more easily

  1. Set an alarm/reminder for registration day

When PEAK announces the next exam sessions, you will be able to see commencement date of registration on the fourth column; Registration will usually start about one month before the exam date – do not think the registration is actually one month long. In fact, the online registration only takes a few minutes until full. Therefore, it is strongly recommended that students set an alarm clock or calendar reminder in advance, and reserve time to process registration matters. As shown in the example, there will be an EAQE exam on July 27, 2021, and students should go to their website to register on June 22, 2021 at 9:00 am.

     2. Enter the web page at 8:58am and refresh the page

In order to avoid losing the opportunity to successfully get a spot for the real estate exam, it is highly recommended that students use all the electronic devices they have to enter the PEAK registration website on the day of registration. It is best to have completed the loading of the website at 8:55-58, and then be on time to refresh the page for real time exam slot vacancies in this way, you can grasp the best time to gain a spot in the real estate exam.

     3. Have a credit card ready

Since online registration only accepts credit card payments, and the payment usually requires entering the credit card number, expiration date and the verification code on the back of the credit card, if students want to be faster than others, they must take out the credit card a few minutes in advance and store it in a convenient but safe location for easy access when it’s time to make payment. Visa/Mastercard/UnionPay credit cards are accepted for real estate examination registration.

     4. Be ready for registration by post

Sometimes online registration may not be smooth. If the online registration quota is full and you want to take the same exam session, you can consider applying by post. PEAK divides the quota for the exams into three categories: online registration, postal registration and in-person registration. If you are unsuccessful with online registration, you can immediately prepare a photocopy of the registration form, a copy of valid Hong Kong ID card or passport of the candidate, and a crossed cheque (payable to “Vocational Training Council”) for the examination fee to be sent to the examination centre. After placing the form in an envelope with a stamp, it is best to mail the form on the day of registration, in this way your form will reach the centre as soon as possible. However, please note that the success of the letter arrival date will be based on the postmark date on the envelope. If the student “cheats” and sends the letter early and the postmark date is before the registration start date, the registration will not be successful.

In addition, students are advised to fill in their mobile phone number when filling in the registration form. PEAK will notify you of the success or failure of the registration via SMS within 4 working days after receiving the registration form. Candidates who successfully register will receive a receipt and admission ticket by ordinary mail approximately 7 working days later.

     5. Register in person

If students do not trust the speed of local mail posting, you have another option, which is to go to the PEAK exam center to submit the registration form in person and present a valid Hong Kong ID card or original passport. The center accepts cash, EPS, credit card (Visa/Mastercard/UnionPay), or Alipay HK/WeChat Pay HK.
