What is the Use for IIQE Certificates?

May 25, 2021

Is there any difference between notification of results and a certificate? Do I need to submit both at the same time when I apply for a license?

The IIQE notification of results and certificate are two different kinds of proof. The Vocational Training Council (VTC) Institute of Professional Education and Knowledge (PEAK) is responsible for organizing examinations and issuing certificates. Therefore, the notification of results and certificates are issued by PEAK. Anyone who takes the IIQE exam will receive a notification of results after the completion of the exam. If a printed copy of the notification of results is not issued after the exam, PEAK will mail the notification to you later. The notification of results records the students’ basic information, exam date, exam information, and whether they passed or failed the exam.

The notification of results is only valid for 2 years, and within 2 years from the exam date, the notification of results can be handed in to your company directly, hence your company can submit your application over to the SFC for approval. However, after 2 years, the notification of results will lose its reference value.

The certificate is an additional official certificate issued to students after passing the exam. However, holding a certificate does not mean that you have a license, nor can it be used to apply for an IA license, and you do not need to have any IIQE certificate to apply for a license. The role of the certificate is only to add a line of seemingly professional achievements to your resume, and you can show off to your customers, family and friends. From the perspective of applying for a license, the certificate is optional, and it is harmless not to obtain it.

How to obtain the IIQE certificate?

Students can go to the registration office of the exam center to collect the certificate two weeks after passing the exam and within two years from the exam day. Students can go there in person, or they can authorize others to bring a signed authorization letter and a photocopy of the Hong Kong ID card/passport to the exam center to collect the certificate. Students can also apply in writing with a copy of their Hong Kong ID card/passport and pay for postage expenses of HK$25 with a crossed cheque, and request the certificate to be sent by registered mail. The cheque should be made payable to “Vocational Training Council”. If you still have not obtained it after 2 years, you must apply for a replacement certificate.
