How to obtain an exemption for the HKSI LE Securities and Futures Practitioners Qualification Examination?
In the previous issue, we talked about how if someone wants to work in the securities industry in Hong Kong, they must first pass the Hong Kong Securities and Investment Institute's (HKSI) Licensing Examination for Securities and Futures Intermediaries.
Are there any exemptions for the HKSI Securities and Futures Practitioners Qualification Examination, which consists of many papers (currently 15 in total)?
Of course,
there are exemptions!
How can one obtain an exemption?
And which examination papers can be exempted?
There are five ways to obtain exemptions:
1.Accumulate relevant work experience,
2.Obtain professional qualifications,
3.Meet specific educational requirements,
4.Complete elective courses,
5.Combine education and experience.
How can one achieve these exemptions?
1.Experience is king.
If you:
Have more than 5 years of securities industry experience within the past 8 years (working region is not limited);
Congratulations! ! !
You can directly obtain exemptions for HKSI LE Papers 7 to 12.
2.Professional qualifications - if not me, who else?
If you:
Do not have more than 5 years of securities industry experience within the past 8 years;
But you have:
Internationally recognized legal, accounting, or financial qualifications, such as CFA, CFP, CIIA;
Congratulations! ! !
You can directly obtain exemptions for HKSI LE Papers 7 to 12.
3.Professional education - the proof of capability.
If you:
Do not have more than 5 years of securities industry experience within the past 8 years; and do not have internationally recognized legal, accounting, or financial qualifications;
But you have:
A bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, financial management, or law as your major;
Congratulations! ! !
Y1ou can directly obtain exemptions for HKSI LE Papers 7 to 12.
4.If your degree is not related, then choose elective courses.
If you:
Do not have more than 5 years of securities industry experience within the past 8 years; do not have internationally recognized legal, accounting, or financial qualifications; and do not have a bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, financial management, or law as your major;
But you have:
Studied accounting, business administration, economics, finance, financial management, or law as elective courses during your bachelor's degree or higher studies, and passed at least two of the related exams:
Congratulations! ! !
You can directly obtain exemptions for HKSI LE Papers 7 to 12.
5.If education is insufficient, combine it with experience.
If you:
Do not have more than 5 years of securities industry experience within the past 8 years; do not have internationally recognized legal, accounting, or financial qualifications; and do not have a bachelor's degree or higher in accounting, business administration, economics, finance, financial management, or law as your major; and did not study accounting, business administration, economics, finance, financial management, or law as elective courses during your bachelor's degree or higher studies, and have not passed at least two related exams:
But you have:Passed the Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE) in Chinese/English language and mathematics or have an equivalent qualification, and have at least 2 years of relevant work experience within the past 5 years.
Congratulations! ! !
You can directly obtain exemptions for HKSI LE Papers 7 to 12.
If none of the above conditions apply, then you still need to take the exam honestly.
No, there are no exemptions for any other papers besides Papers 7 to 12.
So, how can individuals who are exempted from HKSI LE Papers 7 to 12 apply for SFC license?
After passing the HKSI LE Paper 1 exam, individuals can apply for the SFC license by submitting the application form and other required documents such as educational and professional qualifications through their company for SFC's approval. This means that HKSI Paper 1 cannot be exempted under any circumstances.
Is there an educational requirement for taking the HKSI exams?
Can individuals take the exams?
