Where can I take the real estate practitioner qualification exam?
According to the licensing requirements for real estate practitioners, passing the relevant qualification exam is a prerequisite for obtaining a real estate agent (individual) license or salesperson license.
The Hong Kong Real Estate Brokerage Qualification Exams are divided into: Estate Agents Qualifying Examinations (EAQE), also known as the “Big License” or “E-License” exam, and Salespersons Qualifying Examinations (SQE), also known as the “Small License” or “S-License” exam.
Both the EAQE and SQE exams are organized by the Vocational Training Council Peak Academy (VTC PEAK).
The Vocational Training Council Peak Academy is a statutory institution in Hong Kong that provides professional education and training. It only administers the exams and does not handle license applications. Therefore, applicants should apply for a license with the Estate Agents Authority after completing the exam.
The Estate Agents Authority, or EAA, is responsible for regulating compliance matters in the entire real estate industry, including supervising the business of real estate agent companies and processing license applications for real estate practitioners. However, please note that the EAA does not administer exams. To take the real estate practitioner qualification exam, please register with the Vocational Training Council Peak Academy.
How do I obtain the results of the real estate practitioner qualification exam? What is the validity period of the results?
The result notification will be mailed to candidates via ordinary mail by the Vocational Training Council Peak Academy Exam Center on the fourteenth working day after the written exam or the seventh working day after the computer exam. Candidates who have agreed to have their exam results posted online can view their personal results on the exam center website on the fourteenth working day after the written exam or the seventh working day after the computer exam. The exam results posted on the exam center website will show the candidate’s exam results (excellent/qualified/unqualified/absent/disqualified) and scores for the first and second parts of the exam questions.
The exam results will be stored on the website for one month. The scores of candidates who have been penalized for violating exam rules will only be displayed on the result notification. Absent or disqualified candidates will not be scored. All online results are for reference only, and the results on the mailed result notification are the final basis and have the ultimate effect. Please note that if the qualified result notification is used for license application, the validity period is 12 months from the date of the exam. Candidates must apply for a license with the Estate Agents Authority within 12 months of obtaining a qualified result.
How long after the license expires do I need to retake the exam?
In the real estate industry, as long as the guidelines are met and the license is renewed, an individual license holder’s license will not expire. However, if the license expires or is temporarily suspended, and the holder re-registers within 2 years, the requirements for education and qualification exams can be exempted.
If the license has expired for more than 2 years, you will need to retake the qualification exam.
