In addition to seats in prestigious schools and university admissions, Hong Kong also has another “competitive” quota – acquiring a spot for real estate examinations. Generally, you can sign up at 9 o’clock in the morning on the day of registration, but the slots are normally full within a few minutes. The real estate examination is organized by the Institute of Professional Education And Knowledge. The real estate exam is divided into 2 different exams – Estate Agent Qualifying Examination (EAQE) and Salesperson Qualifying Examination(SQE). The computer-based exam and the paper-based exam have the same test scope and exam format.Only the exam medium is different.
Exam Pass Score
For both EAQE and SQE, candidates shall pass Part 1 and Part 2 respectively in order to pass the entire exam. The pass grade is 60% in each part
.
Exam threshold
There are no thresholds for age, education, work experience, or professional qualifications to apply for the real estate exam. Taking the exam and getting a passing result is just one of the licensing conditions. Passing the exam does not mean successfully obtaining a license. Passing the exam does not mean that you will be able to successfully apply for a license. Passing the exam and applying for a license are two different things.

As long as students meet the following points, they can take the exam:
- The students have not passed the relevant exam subjects from12 months prior to exam registration until the exam date.
- To apply for EAQE, you cannot hold a valid real estate agent license or one that will expire within 24 months.
- Applicants for SQE cannot hold a valid real estate agent or salesperson license or one that will expire within 24 months.
- Applicants for SQE cannot take more than one SQE exam in the same month.
